I'm not sure if the lack of a response means that (a) no one who visits here runs anymore or (b) no one who still runs posts here.

I'm not a facebook user either... too busy being retired... but I know Meb won the men's race and Rita Jepto the women's race

Most folks moved over to a secret group on FB:

Perhaps more of a gated Facebook community than a secret one.

'Secret' is a FB term, not mine. FB also has Public groups and Private groups, each of the three types of groups has their own privacy levels.

That's all very interesting although using the terms "secret" and "private" in the context of Facebook borders on Orwellian.

I'd still prefer the TM group to be on TM rather than Facebook, but if so few people visit here, that isn't going to change. I don't really understand the preference of Facebook for this group of people. Sad

Not to get controversial so this isn't intended to be that. Back in 2008 when it got very heated and sometimes personal many left with the thought of staying away and looking for more friendly grounds. That was just reality. Some of us with opposing viewpoints chose to stay above the fray and stay.

Not Orwellian, but not public in the sense that -- rather being seen by all your FB friends -- it is seen by your Tapir FB friends. Frankly, with some of the stuff we say about bananas, Code Browns, etc., I am glad that certain comments we make are not broadcast to a wider group of people.

The "secret" group was created only recently, not as a result of a sudden shift, but as a result of more and more Tapirs using FB and ignoring this place.

Obviously, many of us when we get a chance, check back here.

Orwellian describes how Facebook treats your "private" data.

I agree, but it is not just Facebook. Same can be said for Google, AOL, Amazon, Uncle Sam, China, Russia...

Paraphrasing Glenn Reynolds, they told me that if I voted for John McCain and Mitt Romney that the federal government was going to conspire with big corporations to invade the privacy of everyone, and they were right!

I forgot, who did all of those BIG DATA companies support?

How about just leaving politics out of this and agreeing that it would be really nice if Taper Madness could be revitalized? Laughing

Wow. I'm friends a couple dozen Tapirs on FB, but apparently not worthy of this secret FB group. Sad now.

I don't know who 'mans the gate' (God, I hope it's not Ryk!), but here's the link to the group.

Geez, I didn't realize you weren't in the group Barb -- I'd have voted you in!

Don't be! I think it's more a matter of who folks remembered to add without comparing all the names to the TM member list or their entire friends list on FB. This is precisely why a closed group on FB isn't great...

Just come here more often and we can bring things back to life. Wink
